We would like to inform you of an important change regarding Moxa's IPS license structure.
To improve the customer buying experience for IPS service renewals and add-on purchases, Moxa will introduce a new point-based licensing system, replacing the current time-based system.
This new structure simplifies license selection and supports multi-year coverage through IPS-DEVICE licenses.
The current time-based licenses will remain available for purchase until July 30, 2025, and the new point-based licenses will be available from July 31, 2025. Customers with valid time-based licenses can seamlessly migrate them to the new point-based model without losing entitlements, provided the licenses remain valid.
Which license SKU will be discontinued?
The following license models will be discontinued. Also, see the models recommended to replace the soon-to-be-discontinued models, as well as when the replacement models will be available for order.

How the Point-based IPS License Works
- IPS-DEVICE: Each device consumes one point per day. Even after the balance reaches zero, the IPS functionality remains active. However, the system will stop updating IPS patterns after the last version when the license points run out.
- IPS-MGMT: All managed devices share a centralized points pool, and each device
consumes one point per day.
Example: If MXsecurity has 730 points managing two devices, each device effectively consumes 365 points (365 days of pattern update subscription).
You can check the remaining points through the following paths:
- For IPS-DEVICE licenses: Navigate to System > License Management on the device?s web GUI to view the current points balance and estimated point depletion date.
- For IPS-MGMT licenses (via MXsecurity): Go to System > Licenses in the MXsecurity interface to monitor the shared points pool, including points balance, daily point usage, and estimated point depletion date.
- The maximum limit is 3,650 points per device (10 years). If this limit is reached, additional licenses cannot be imported until points are used.
For IPS-MGMT-[x]Point license, the required points ([x]) calculation:
- Required points = Number of devices with IPS pattern update enabled × Number of service days
- Example: Enabling IPS pattern updates for five devices over one year (365 days) requires 1,825 points (5 × 365).
